Aker Development is a construction company focused on residential infill projects in the City of Portland and similar jurisdictions.
We are seeking a Site Superintendent who can lead projects efficiently,
maintain high quality, and manage relationships effectively.
Under the direction of the Project Manager, the Site Superintendent oversees the day-to-day field operations of each project. The ideal candidate is a team player who can perform well in high-stress situations, exercise sound judgment, and make independent decisions. This individual must also be able to plan ahead and coordinate multiple job sites at various stages of construction.
JOB DUTIES
The Site Superintendent will be responsible for working as a team with the Project Manager, other Superintendents, Designers, Engineers, Drafting Professionals, and all other support staff toward the overall success of each project. In addition, the Site Superintendent will interact with owners,
inspectors, City officials, neighbors, and other key community members. As such, confidentiality, discretion, diplomacy, and professionalism are a must. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
● Manage, coordinate, and supervise the construction process from conceptual development through final construction on a timely and economical basis.
● Oversee the organization, scheduling, and implementation of the project to execute the design elements provided by the PM and design/architectural team, and direct various teams to complete the tasks that integrate the building structure.
● Coordinate and manage people, materials, equipment, budgets, schedules, contracts, and the safety of employees and the public; oversee all activities at each site daily.
● As needed, be responsible for the selection, hiring, and oversight of specialty subcontractors.
● Regularly review engineering, architectural drawings, and specifications to monitor progress to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and building codes.
● Set-up projects in the internal systems and follow established processes to ensure efficient completion of each project.
● Meet regularly with owners, subcontractors, architects, and other design professionals to monitor and coordinate all phases of the construction project. Interact with city officials and neighbors as needed.
● Observe job conditions and be on the alert to changes and potential problems, particularly involving safety on the job site and adherence to regulations.
● Other relevant duties and responsibilities as needed.
Required Experience & Competencies:
● At least 4 years’ experience in the construction industry, in positions of increasing skills and
responsibility; and at least 2 years’ project supervisory experience.
● Minimum educational requirement of a high school diploma with a college-level or equivalent
education in construction and engineering, business and administration, or other related classes
● Understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, and is knowledgeable about construction
methods, materials, regulations, can read engineering, architectural, and other construction
drawings.
● Well versed in state and local construction codes, regulations, requirements, and practices.
● Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Applications or Google Suite; familiarity with
software programs for job costing, scheduling, and estimating.
● Applicants must be in good physical condition, able to perform the work and walk the site (ex:
uneven surfaces and long distances between structures).
● Adaptable and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment; decisive and able to
work well under pressure, particularly when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays.
● Able to coordinate several major activities at once, while analyzing and resolving specific
problems.
● Excellent oral and written communication skills and understanding of the audience.
● Must be able to establish a good working relationship with many different people including
owners, subcontractors, other site superintendents, design professionals, and neighbors.
● Ability to use diplomatic negotiations to drive results and maintain confidentiality.
● Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
